Maybelline New York: The Search for the NEW 8 BB Top Models!

Up until now, I still can’t believe that I was asked to be a part of this challenge. Maybelline New York was the first ‘ever’ makeup I purchased. It was a powder compact that I bought during High School and I still have a few of those (I repurchase them over and over again) in my makeup stash til’ now. It is, no doubt, one of the best drugstore brands here and I don’t deny my love for it! Imagine how ecstatic I was when I receive an email about this!

June Collective Haul; Fun Department Store Finds

Call me cheap, but I love Dept. Stores. I can spend hours and hours roaming around without feeling tired as long as you put me in one. Since I have been very busy lately, my purchases on separate occasions accumulated. I collectively put them in one post – so I have an excuse to call it a haul. HAHA. Anyway here are the stuff I got last June. Let me know if you want a review of any of these.

I got a plus sized Hawaiian Tropic Sheer Touch Sunblock on SALE! This is my favorite sunblock and I got it for only P250. I don’t remember where I bought it though. I am not sure if I got it from S&R or the Dollar Store. Next I got a Nichido Lip Pencil in Rosette. I always see Clarissa of Clairbellatv on Youtube use this one her videos and I got intrigued I got one myself. It costs P100. Next is another tube of Jazzy’s eyebrow mascara which costs P299.I bought the shade in Frosted Brown. And lastly is a gel liner from Essence since my BH Cosmetics Gel Liner dried up and I am not ready to splurge on Bobbi Brown ‘yet’. This costs me P229. I actually love that this eye liner fares well with me – this product is something I am really excited to share with you! But I’ll save my words for the review soon.

I purchased this around end of May but I had to include it here beacause I want to get this over with and post all the pending things I have not posted. Since I have problematic pores, I bought this St. Ives Apricot Scrub in Blemish Control. This is actually my first purchase of Apricot Scrub in it’s new packaging. This has been part of my skin care routine for more than a decade now, I hope the formula is still the same. It only costs P199 from Landmark Trinoma. I also bought a sifter bottle for my loose powders which was around P29.00 only. Another purchase would be this beauty bar from Snoe (which I reviewed recently here ) and it cost meP199 as well. Lastly was this compact powder from Jordana which I use now for contouring. This only cost me P99. Cheap right?

You might wonder, what’s the Panda doing there? Well, I work on weird shifts. In a week I go to work at 6 in the morning, or 2 in the noon time or 10 in the evening til 6 in the morning. Those schedules vary from time to time it’s really hard adjusting my body clock. Suffice to say, I don’t get enough sleep – and by that I mean quality sleep. I changed my curtains to dark ones but it is still not enough so I resorted with this Panda sleeping patch from Landmark and it only cost me P89.00. I also bought Suave Max Hold Hairspray because I needed this one for clients. This costs less the P300.

These ones are from Sasa Hongkong. I asked my cousin to buy me Palty Hair dyes because it is cheaper there. A month after Watsons already included Palty in their list of wonderful products – only, it will cost you P100 more if you buy them. I didn’t feel bad when I saw that I was still able to save up because it is still cheaper in HK. One Palty Hair Dye cost me P350 only. My cousin also sent me a few masks to try. If you are reading this.. Thanks flo! 🙂

Lastly, I got to giant size sun essentials. One is a Banana Boat Sunblock that costs P400 only. I know, I know it’s for Kids. But who can’t resist a plus sized sunblock for a cheap price? Another is Banana Boat’s Aloe After Sun which costs P200 only. You might wonder why I stock up on sun lotions.. That’s because I play Ultimate Frisbee almost every weekends for leagues and I also train on weekdays (which I hardly get to do now because of work boohoo). Our sport, require us to be under the sun which is why I hoard sunblocks when I see a good bargain.

So, that’s it! I hope I didn’t bore you out! Let me know if you want a review on certain products. I’ll try to blog them as soon as I can!

Review: Snoe Awesome Poresome Beauty Bar

One thing I am very insecure about myself would be my humongous pores. I kept searching and trying for products that I could add to my skincare routine to help minimize them. When I found out that Snoe has a beauty bar that caters to my skin issue, I immediately grabbed one at their Trinoma counter to try it out.

With the packaging alone, this product already won me over. But I had to patiently test this, to see if it really works. Hence, I used this alone for a month (twice daily – religously), without accompanying any product from my skincare routine to see unbiased results.

According to Snoe,  Awesome Poresome Beauty Bar dissolves excess oil, dirt and impurities. It will lift away dead skin cells, leaving skin clean, nourished, and fresh. Use it daily to help eliminate blemishes, prevent new breakouts, and maximize penetration of powerful pore minimizing ingredients of other Awesome Poresome products.

Product Details:

  • Weight: 150 grams
  • Price: P199.00 (Around $5.00)
  • Availability: Snoe has a lot of branches sprawling around the metro already.  I bought mine from their counter at Landmark Trinoma. Here’s a list of Snoe’s other branches from Facebook.

Awesome Poresome beauty bar contains Calamansi Puree, Cucumber Extract, Pineapple Extract and Witch Hazel.

  • Calamansi is rich in Vitamin C and is a natural bleaching agent which helps lighten blemishes.
  • Cucumber, as we commonly know, is a good hydrating agent. You might notice that a lot of facial masks includes cucumber extract as it’s main ingredient. This is so, because cucumber also helps in tightening skin – something that would contribute with minimizing pores I think?
  • Pineapple Extract, like what the packaging explains, contain AHA, which improves skin elasticity. It also keeps the skin hydrated and moisturized.
  • Witch Hazel is one ingredient I keep looking for when it comes to skin care. The main ingredient in the toner I regularly use is also Witch Hazel. This convinced me to try this product more.  Witch Hazel is used in many astringents and is a strong anti-oxidant. It is useful in treating a lot of skin ailments such as psoriasis and eczema.  It is very useful in reducing swelling and soothing wounds.

One good thing that is a plus for me is that Snoe is proudly Filipino made. On the side of the packaging you would see a “Tatak Pinoy Seal” as I like to call it. And the manufacturing date and Expiry Date is also written on the side.

My face was in it’s worst shape before I used Snoe’s Awesome Poresome. I had breakouts all over which was challenging for this product to deliver. On top of that, my pores were also so huge, it looked like I was seeing them on macro lens all the time. Using the soap on the first day, I already felt the difference, my skin felt tight after using it and, I didn’t get oily when I wake up in the morning. Although when I take photographs for documenting, I couldn’t see much of the difference yet on my pores – thanks for Macro settings on my camera, I felt like being slapped in the face for the harsh truth that my pores are really HUGE! You have to lather it on wet skin and leave it for 2 minutes. A little pricking on the face would be felt initially but it is normal. It goes to show that the product is taking effect.

Upon rinsing, you feel like your face is squeaky clean. After using it for a week, I noticed that my pores were still around, but it got smaller. Aside from that, my blemishes lightened too. You would also notice that it also lessened the inflammation on my face. The photos below show how it progressed and how it fared well on me. I divided the soap into small bars and I even gave a few ones to my friends for them to try. One slice from this soap would last you for 5 weeks. It would last you a year before you finish the whole bar. It is common knowledge that we can’t make our pores disappear but products like this would help minimize them. You have to take into consideration that I didn’t use other skin care product (no toners, no moisturizers etc.) when I used this for a month. Right now, I still use this, but this time, I accompany it with my toner from Dickinson’s and moisturizer from Celeteque and they all go well combined, plus they speed up in making my face healthier. I am thinking of using the whole set from the line of Awesome Poresome if my budget permits already.

  • It gets prickly when you leave it to dry in your face after lathering.
  • Other than that, I couldn’t really think of any.

  • Really EFFECTIVE! It worked really well and lived up to how it is advertised.
  • Aside from being effective in minimizing pores, it also lightened the marks caused by my breakouts.
  • Cheap! It only costs P199 and it would last you for over a year.
  • The soap doesn’t melt – therefore, there is not much wasting!
  • Easily available. Snoe has many stores and kiosks around the metro and it is also available online.
  • It does not have a strong scent.

THE VERDICT: I give it a 4.5/5! I already recommended this bar to a lot of my friends who go through the same skin issue as mine before I even finished writing and documenting this review. Indeed it is effective. Need I say more?

How to: Deep Cleanse Make Up Brushes

Make up brushes gather dirt, bacteria and facial oils aside from the make up it picks up when used for application. It is essential to clean our brushes regularly, besides, who wants to spread bacteria on their faces anyway?

I have tried several ways on cleaning my make up brushes, some didn’t work well to the point that my make up brushes got damaged. So far, this works well for me, and I have been doing it for years already. I am still finding ways on making this task more convenient and easier to do, but for now I am sharing what works for me as of the moment.

Dirty Makeup Brushes
Baby Shampoo
Olive Oil
Paper Towel
Clean Towel
Brush Guards
Glasses and Basins

Separate your brushes depending on their type (Natural or Synthetic). You also have to take into consideration the products used on the brush for application, i.e. if the make up is in powder form, cream, liquid, etc. For those with Natural hair, you can skip the second step. This goes the same with the brushes that are synthetic and yet powder forms of make up were used for application. However, those with Synthetic hairs and those that pick up cream and liquid based makeups are more tedious to cleanse.

(This applies to brushes with Synthetic hair and those applied with cream/liquid based makeups only)
“Blot” olive oil on paper towel. I know, others would tell you to mix olive oil on your cleansing medium, however that didn’t work well for me, it weighed down the hair on my brushes and it caused them to shed I had to throw a lot of them because of that.
After blotting the paper towel with olive oil, just swirl and work your brushes until the brush no longer leaves color on the paper towel.
This is essential to brushes that were applied with waxy products like gel liners, lipsticks and creamy foundations. Olive oil helps breakdown the waxiness and thickness of the product before you proceed to the next step.
Mix baby shampoo and water in a small basin. Dip your brushes on the cleansing medium, making sure that it does not touch the ferrule (the metal part that holds the hair). We have to take in consideration, that if water seeps in the ferrules, it will loosen the glue that holds the hair, thus making the brushes shed.
Using a wash cloth, sponge, the palm of your hand etc. lather your brushes! I’m planning on editing this part sometime soon as I use my palms for lathering my brushes haha!
Holding your brushes in a downward position (again, try as much to to let water touch the ferrules) rinse the brushes until all signs of product has been washed away.
Squeeze the excess water on your bushes and proceed to the drying part. In doing so, roll one side of the towel and lay your brushes on a downward position to let more water drip down.
For dense brushes, use brush guards to help squeeze excess water and maintain the shape of your brushes. Place them on clean glasses in a downward position. You may place a clean paper towel on the bottom of the glass to help absorb the water that would possibly drip when drying.
When the brushes are already damp, lay them flat on a clean towel and wait for them to dry. Wipe and buff the handles of the brushes when dry and voila! Clean brushes – all set for your next makeup move!
Remember to clean your brushes regularly. I do this once – twice a week, depending on how often I use them. Remember that brushes also harbor bacteria that could lead to possible skin infections. Cleaning them regularly will reduce the risk of breakouts and infections.
